Phnom Bakheng

Built in the late 9th century, Phnom Bakheng became the nucleus of Angkor.
The impressive pyramid, on top of a steep and dominant hill, is quiet over the day; it's overcrowded at sunset.

Baksei Chamkrong

Consecrated 947. This handy temple, located at the foot of Phnom Bakheng, is rarely visited. It makes the first steep Angkorian pyramid. Textlink.

East Mebon

Five brick towers in a quincunx, eight elephants, in the centre of the East Baray.
A charming place, quiet in the late afternoon. Link

Kapilapura
Ruins of a private temple. 500 m north-east of Angkor Wat.
By the inscription it was consecrated in 968 (reign of Rajendravarman or Jayavarman V). It was probably dedicated to Vishnu. A sandstone fragment, the remains of a small looted Ganesha statue, is at the site. (Reference: Briggs, p. 139, 141.)
