Preliminary remarks  
This is not a systematic Khmer mythology; the spotlights will light up some details and show up the context.  
The genuine religion of the Khmer is Animism. From India they took over Shivaism, Vishnuism, and Buddhism. These were modified and developed in a creative way; the 'Indian' religions in Cambodia may be quite different from their origin.
